Angelina's Humanitarian Efforts

Includes Excerpts from Season Magazine.

"To actually realize that you don't have to have an amazing education and perfect grades, that you can be valuable in this world - that seems so foreign to me. I've realized that if you speak from the heart and you really, truly care about something, you do have a place. If you really care, that's enough. That was a really nice discovery for me." - Angelina Jolie

While the rest of the country is busy contemplating the state of affairs between Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie, Hollywood's hottest heroine likely doesn't give a damn. She has more important things on her mind, namely her real-life role as a mother and her goodwill work as a UN ambassador.

Parlaying her big screen fame into humanitarian aid, Angelina has become one of the most influential philanthropists in the world. Since being appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees four years ago, she has visited thousands of refugees, given millions of dollars for schools, hospitals and shelters, and lobbied before Congress. In 2003, she was honored with the first Citizen of the World award.

Three years ago, award-winning actress Angelina Jolie took on a radically different role as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Here are her memoirs from her journeys to Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Ecuador, where she lived and worked and gave her heart to those who suffer the world's most shattering violence and victimization.

Angelina Jolie Trivia

Fun facts from Wikipedia.

>> She has said that she is bisexual and once claimed to have been in love with fashion model Jenny Shimizu, her co-star in the film Foxfire. "I would probably have married Jenny if I hadn't married my husband. I fell in love with her the first second I saw her."

>> Is the 3rd highest paid actress after Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz.

>> She is left-handed.

>> She wears a size 9 shoe.

>> Jolie once described herself as "most likely to sleep with a female fan."

>> She speaks "very little French" according to her book Notes from My Travels.

>> The name Angelina actually means "little angel" in Italian. Jolie in French means "pretty".

>> She drives a black Ford truck.

>> She has a pilot's license.

>> She collects knives and has interest in mortuary science.

>> She was born at 9:09 a.m. in Los Angeles.

>> She claims to have a fondness for Liverpool Football Club, having revealed that her baby son, Maddox, "only wants to play for Liverpool" after he was admitted to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool for treatment.

>> She has continually denied rumors of an incestuous relationship with her brother, James Haven. During her acceptance speech for winning the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for Girl, Interrupted during the 2000 Academy Awards, Jolie stated "I'm so in love with my brother right now" which, combined with her affectionate behavior towards her brother that night, sparked the rumors.

>> In October 2005, The Sun tabloid in Britain, as well as several American entertainment news programs, reported that Jolie was in the running to appear with her Lara Croft: Tomb Raider co-star Daniel Craig in the next James Bond film, Casino Royale. This ultimately proved to be a false report.

Jon Voight - Angelina's Father

The strange story of Angelina and her Father.

When Angelina was born, Jon Voight was already an established superstar, having topped the bill in such classics as Midnight Cowboy and Deliverance. When Angelina was 2, he'd scoop the Best Actor Oscar for Coming Home. By then though, he'd already split from her mother, the part-Iroquois actress and model Marcheline Bertrand (now Angelina's manager), who'd moved with Angelina and her brother James to the East Coast - to the Palisades, New York, to be more precise.

Jolie has been long estranged from her father, though a reconciliation was attempted by his appearing with her in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. In the October 2004 issue of Premiere Magazine, Jolie indicated that she was no longer interested in pursuing a relationship with her father. Soon after, he claimed that she has "serious emotional problems" on Access Hollywood, and she legally dropped Voight as her last name.
